Farid Jafari Samarghandi

Farid Jafari Samarghandi (1980) was born shortly after the Iranian Islamic Revolution. He grew up in a climate of nationalistic neo-exoticism with, among other things, its endless stream of ‘eastern’ (Egyptian, Turkish, Iranian and Indian) remakes of Hollywood blockbusters. These movies were re-enactments of western stories and themes with the moral and religious values of the original adapted to suit the local audience’s taste and traditions. During post-production Jafari revises fragments of movies from the Middle East and Hollywood. The visually strong and rhythmic video ‘The Power of Christ’ (2010) is an ironic juxtaposition of prominent scenes from 'The Exorcist' and its Turkish remake 'Seytan'.
